Helping kids understand some of the social expectations when it comes to their bodies can sometimes be a challenge for both students and teachers!
Good Hygiene/Bad Manners is a fun and interactive activity that helps teachers share with their students all the typical behaviors around hygiene, and what is expected of them in most social settings. It lists behaviors as either “good hygiene” or “bad manners” (for social appropriateness), or allows for some behaviors to be acceptable “only in private.” The game has very few words and is completely illustrated with pictures on every card. Students and teachers alike will have fun with these examples while they learn what are behaviours of good personal hygiene.
Included: Materials for a class of 30 students, which can be modified for larger or smaller groups.
Concept: Students will receive cards and decide if the behavior is good hygiene, bad manners, or only appropriate in private. This will spark a friendly discussion on each activity, giving students a nuanced understanding of acceptable behavior.
Duration: 15-30 minutes
Level: K-5 or students with intellectual disabilities
